Maryland transfer Danny O’Brien will be the starter for Wisconsin when they take the field against Northern Iowa in the season opener.
ESPN.com reported that Badgers head coach made the announcement via his twitter account.
O’Brien transferred to Wisconsin after starting 17 games in 2 years at Maryland.
This will be the second season in a row that Wisconsin will take advantage of the graduate student transfer rule that allows a graduated senior with remaining eligibility to transfer to an institution that does not offer the same grad school major.
The difference between O’Brien and Russell Wilson is that O’Brien has two seasons of eligibility remaining.
O’Brien beat out senior Curt Phillips and redshirt freshman Joel Stave for the starting job
