scott mitchell calls lomas reprehensible

This past Saturday we reported on the interview former Detroit Lion offensive lineman and current ESPN analyst Lomas Brown gave in which he admitted missing a block in a game on purpose to get his struggling quarterback Scott Mitchell knocked out of the game.

Mitchell did eventually get hurt and ended up missing a few games after that hit.  Mitchell was on The Dan Patrick Show this morning, and during an interview with Mike Florio, Mitchell called his former teammate “reprehensible and said he was hurt by such an act.”

“It just really hurt,” Mitchell said. “It was extremely disappointing. I’m really shocked by it, to be honest. Here’s a guy I’ve had in my house, I had a big dinner for the offensive linemen every year, he came to my house and ate dinner, I gave my offensive linemen gifts every year. For him to do that is just reprehensible, beyond words. It’s really disappointing, it really is painful. When you mess with my family, mess with my livelihood, mess with my health, it’s unacceptable. It’s B.S. I just wouldn’t do it to a teammate. I wouldn’t do it. If Lomas has a problem with me, come talk to me. To try to get someone hurt, it’s just mind-boggling.”

“People get seriously hurt in this game,” Mitchell said. “For someone to just lay down like that, it’s unacceptable.”

Mitchell said former teammates such as Herman Moore and others have reached out to offer support.  Lomas Brown should be ashamed of himself, and he should have just kept his mouth shut.

I’ve played with teammates I didn’t like, or respect, but at the end of the day, we were teammates all in it for the same goals.

To admit you would dog it or blow a block on purpose, just takes away from the respect you had as a person.  Lomas Brown played himself this time.

If it happened to anyone but Scott Mitchell, I’d agree with the prevailing sentiment that Lomas is pond scum. However, Scott Mitchell was the biggest coward I’ve ever seen in sports at any level. Threw 5 interceptions in a playoff game and gets angry for being yanked. Throws 3 in the first half against the Giants and has a temper tantrum on the sideline for the same reason. Lays down on the turf in a regular season game against the Vikings and a playoff game against Tampa and fakes an injury because he was tired of competing (tv cameras caught the latter). Publicly mocks his head coach and costs him his job.

Mitchell was a gutless worm and remains the most hated athlete in the history of Detroit sports. My respect for Lomas Brown is higher than ever.
