Lions Jahvid Best Unlikely To Play Football Again

Hopefully this news doesn’t lead to any lawsuits down the line, but you never know.  The Detroit Free Press is reporting that Lions speedy and oft injured running back Jahvid Best is unlikely to ever play football again.

They traded up to take Best with the 30th pick of the first round in 2010 after signing off on his medicals — he suffered a significant brain injury when he landed on his head in his final college game.

Best isn’t expected to play football again after doctors refused to clear him this season following a pair of concussions in 2011.

Jahvid took test on Monday, and was expected to learn today what the results were from that test.

“I can’t give you my opinion on how it went, I’m just hopeful for the best for tomorrow,” Best said.

Best who is still somewhat in denial of that fact called those rumors premature, and said “he’d cross that bridge when he gets to them.”

“I’ve just been working out like an animal,” Best said. “I’ve had nothing else to do.”

Lions offensive coordinator Scott Linehan tried to sound more optimistic.

“You’ve all seen Jahvid when he’s played,” offensive coordinator Scott Linehan said. “He’s as explosive of a player as I’ve been around. We’re excited about the prospect of him coming back, but we’re also tempering that enthusiasm, knowing that a lot of things have to be done before that happens.”
