The Jets already half existent receiving corp won’t have it’s best player to open up the start of training camp.

The New York Daily News is reporting that Santonio Holmes is likely to miss the start of the team’s training camp while continuing to recover from a Lisfranc injury that caused him to most of last season.

“I don’t have a target date,” said Holmes at uSTADIUM’s Flags for Foundations flag football tournament on Roosevelt Island Saturday. “I don’t want to do anything to jeopardize myself being ready for the season.”

Holmes reportedly hasn’t anything close to running routes at full speed. Holmes said “he’s been running on a non-weight bearing treadmill at least three times per week.”

“It’s just getting back into the swing of walking and running without any pains from having scar tissue build up around the injury,” said Holmes. “It’s really difficult to learn how to walk again. To do so much balance work, you don’t realize what you have until it’s gone. To lose a ligament and have separation in your joints, have screws placed in.”

It will be imperative for the Jets to get Holmes back and healthy if they want to help Mark Sanchez or Geno Smith have success in the passing game.
