Things move fast in the new age of social media, and social awareness.
24 hours ago we reported that Jay Z and his Roc Nation Sports Agency were pursuing South Carolina star defensive end Jadeveon Clowney.
WLTX in Columbia is reporting that the University of South Carolina is now looking into the relationship between Clowney and Jay Z, and whether or not there has been any contact between the two.
A spokesman for the USC athletics department said the schools compliance office was aware of what’s being circulated and is looking into the reports.
Gamecocks head coach Steve Spurrier was asked about the reports on ESPN yesterday.
“All of our conversations [with Clowney] are wait until you have played your last game at South Carolina,” Spurrier said. “When the bowl game is over this coming season he’s free to accept any amount of money anybody wants to give him. But until then he has to be a student-athlete like all the other guys or he’s not going to be eligble. He’s done a good job of knowing that.”
NCAA rules prohibit Clowney from agreeing to any deals with any agency until he has played his final game. Clowney is free to have a conversation with Jay Z or anyone else he chooses to speak to.
