Chiefs head coach Andy Reid knows a good quarterback when he sees one.  Reid has made a living out of taking quarterbacks no one believed in, and making them serviceable.

Just ask Bills backup Kevin Kolb who turned an opportunity to start in Philadelphia, into $28 million guaranteed from the Cardinals.

When the San Francisco 49ers decided this off-season that they had no more need for Alex Smith, Reid and the Chiefs jumped at the opportunity to get a legit signal caller in Kansas City.

What we didn’t know, was that the trade of Smith to an Andy Reid coached team was many years in the making.

Andy Reid told The New York Times,  that when he was still the coach for the Eagles, he “called the 49ers multiple times to inquire about trading for Smith.”

The Times reported Saturday that Reid “enjoyed watching how (Smith) improved” over the years as an NFL passer.

“We’d love to stick it to everybody who thought we couldn’t do it, he and I included,” Smith, 29, said in a recent interview. He added, “It’s every person here.”
