I’m so excited about the NFL Combine starting this week. One prospect in particular that will be under intense scrutiny is former South Carolina Gamecocks wide receiver Alshon Jeffery. Jeffery now has first hand knowledge and experience of how the annual pre-combine rumor mill brings a ton of misinformation and can have your NFL stock up or down depending on the source or reporting expert. Aaron Wilson of Scout.com has reported that Jeffery’s weight is in the 217-220 pound range and that Jeffery fully expects to run a 4.5 40 yard dash. True or false those rumors have now caused the first team all american to deal with comparisons to current Seahawks wide receiver Mike Williams who dealt with criticism of his weight and work ethic. It will be crucial for Jeffery to not only look and perform well, but to also show traits of a hard worker along with lights out interviews with NFL gm’s and execs. A good combine showing coupled with a dazzling pro-day could vault Jeffery back in to early first round consideration. Any hint of laziness or a slow 40 time could prove detrimental and push star gamecocks receiver into second day status. Ah the NFL at its best.
