Phoenix Mercury center Brittney Griner already has a pretty dominant offensive game, but she called in the reinforcements to get her game WNBA ready.
While preparing for her rookie season in the WNBA, a physically fit looking Griner got about an hour’s worth of instruction from NBA Hall of Famer Kareem Abdul-Jabbar according to ESPN.
The main focus of the workout was teaching Griner the unstoppable Skyhook.
“I went to legend school today and it was awesome,” Griner said at the Phoenix Mercury’s practice court inside the US Airways Center.
Griner has spent the past week getting ready as the Phoenix Mercury opened training camp, and the intensity got a little higher when Diana Taurasi and the rest of her veteran Mercury teammates joined her.
Still the highlight so far was the time spent with Abdul-Jabbar.
“I was star struck right there,” Griner said. “You know it when I don’t talk; I like to talk and you know I’m star struck when I’m just listening. I hit you with the yes sir, yes ma’am, I’m definitely star struck.”
Griner was uncomfortable at first, but figured the shot out after a while.
“She did start to get it, how I used it,” he said. “Not everybody uses the same tool in the same way, so you’ve got to make adjustments to that. But I think with her potential and willingness to learn, she’ll do well.”
