Jim Irsay said it would get done and done it is.
NFL.com via Albert Breer reported that the Indianapolis Colts and No 1 overall pick Andrew Luck have come to terms on a four-year deal worth $22.1 million or about the same as Cam Newton and the Panthers agreed to last season.
The deal includes a fifth-year team option and $14.5 million signing bonus. It also includes no off-set contract language that was at the root of several first round deals still not being done.
The Colts outspoken owner announced the deal via his twitter page, complete with a photo of Luck signing his contract.
Again thanks to the new CBA this process is about as smooth as will it ever be for rookies trying to sign their initial deals.
It now allows Luck to take over the reigns of the NFL’s worst franchise and learn on the job as his predecessor Peyton Manning did some 13 years ago.
