I mean if LaVar Ball can’t get along and co-exist with the great Magic Johnson, then I’m not sure what the future holds for the elder statesman of the Big Baller Brand.
The Lakers first have to secure a top three pick to even have this conversation, but with NBA personnel men running from the thought of having to deal with LaVar Ball, Johnson told reporters that the mercurial dad “won’t factor in to whether” they draft UCLA’s dynamic point guard per Silver Screen and Roll via ESPN.
“[No affects] at all. I think what you’re drafting is the son and not the father. I think that you also are gauging and evaluating his son on his ability, and what he can do not only on the basketball court, but also what he can do for your team. How he can enhance and make your team better,” Johnson said during an interview on ESPN 2 during the NBA Combine in Chicago.
“So if we’re fortunate to keep our pick, wherever that is, then you take a look at him. Just like any team who would be drafting in the top four or five would take a look at him and the other players who are there,” Johnson continued.
I think its safe to say that Lavar will have to chill or likely have his access limited to seats at the games at best. The franchise thrives on “attention” and “dysfunction” but can a talent laden rebuild really survive the loudest pop in Hollywood?
