Moss Is 49ers Top Receiver According To Harbaugh

I have to wonder if this story is more hype than fact, but whatever helps motivate a team and its players works for me.

The story from via the San Jose Mercury News, speaks of new San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Randy Moss doing what he does best when focused, which is impress all those around him.

according to SiriusXM NFL Radio’s Rich Gannon, Niners head coach Jim Harbaugh has had nothing but praise for the much maligned Moss.

Gannon said Harbaugh told him: “This offseason he’s been incredible. He’s our best receiver right now.’ ”

Gannon then added: “How ’bout that, ‘He’s our best receiver.’ ”

Gannon was also quoted during the interview about a conversation he had with Harbaugh regarding a meeting the coach had with Moss after signing the wide out in March.

“At the end of the meeting, Randy turned to Jim Harbaugh and said, ‘Coach, what do you want me to do, what can I do for you?'” Gannon said. “And Jim looked at him and said, ‘For starters, I’d like you to sit in the front row of my meetings.’

“He said by doing that it’s brought guys like (Michael) Crabtree, who’d hang out in the back, and some of these other young guys, now they’re sitting up front with Randy Moss,” he said. “They don’t have the hoodies on anymore. They’re alert. They’re paying attention. Randy’s taking notes. Every meeting that coach has had, Randy Moss has been sitting in the front row.”

In my opinion a focused and motivated Randy Moss is a problem for any defense in the NFL period.

Michael Crabtree can do nothing but learn from Moss, his good habits that is.

Moss will open things up for Frank Gore and the 49ers rushing attack and allow for Crabtree, Manningham, and Vernon Davis to all see and win one on one matchups easily.

Check back with me in January when the 49ers have one of the NFL’s best overall offenses because of ole Otis Moss.

  1. I help out at and have to say that this is just a long line of non-stories that have occurred over the course of the offseason. Until he shows he can’t play (i think he can) or that Alex Smith can’t make the deep throw then defenses definitely have to respect him. Having only 7 guys in the box as opposed to last years stacked run defenses can only help the team exploit their strengths, short passing and running up the middle. And all this for next to no guaranteed money. I’m happy.
