NC State Stuns No. 1 Seed Villanova, 71-68, To Advace To Sweet 16

NC State Villanova Upset

Poor Flute Girl.

NC State pulled the biggest upset of the NCAA Tournament so far, shocking No. 1 seed Villanova in Pittsburgh, 71-68 in a thriller — while also destroying so many brackets in the process.

Nova was always the consensus favorite of all four No. 1 seeds to fall first, but no one expected this bad of a performance.

The Wildcats were an awful 9-for-28 from deep, and shot under 30% from the field as a group. Last year, as a No. 2 seed, it was Connecticut that ended Villanova’s season prematurely.

Abdul-Malik Abu (13 points, 12 rebounds) and Lennard Freeman (11 points, 12 rebounds) both had double-doubles while dominating inside.
