Notre Dame Suspends Reese For Season Opener

Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly is trying to teach his players accountability and responsibility, what better way than to miss a trip to Dublin, Ireland.

The Republic via the Associated Press is reporting that potential starting quarterback Tommy Reese and linebacker Carl Calabrese have been suspended for the September 1 season opener against Navy in Ireland.

The 2 were arrested at an off campus party in May and charged with resisting arrest.

Coach Brian Kelly released a statement about the suspension.

“Carlo and Tommy put themselves in a situation that when given a choice between two distinct paths, they responded with a set of poor decisions,” he said. “This conduct was inconsistent with my expectations for our football program – especially our veteran, team leaders. Carlo and Tommy will not travel with the team to Ireland and can attempt to climb the depth chart following the conclusion of their respective suspensions.”

Kelly also said his players “understand that it’s a privilege” to be at Notre Dame and Rees and Calabrese, both upperclassmen, failed to live up to their responsibilities.

Reese is in a four-way battle to start at quarterback and I’m not sure how much the suspension will affect his ability to be the starter.
