The scenario gets even more interesting by the minute. After offering Wes Welker a low ball offer, and watching him sign with the hated Denver Broncos, the New England Patriots responded by agree to a deal with former Ram receiver Danny Amendola to the terms of five years and $31 million dollars.
Pro Football Talk is reporting that Amendola was on the Patriots radar from the beginning, after his success when Josh McDaniel was the offensive coordinator in St. Louis.
Amendola and Welker are similar in every way except durability and production. Amendola has missed 20 games over the past two seasons, and has never put up the type of 100 catch seasons that Welker is known for.
Things just really got interesting in the AFC. We will now see if Welker was just a system guy, and if Amendola can duplicate numbers in the same system.
