With any charge as horrific as rape it is extremely important to tread lightly before heaping a claim of guilt or innocence on the accused.
That being said it is sports news and must be reported.
According to Philly.com, eighteen-year-old freshman linebacker Praise Martin-Oguike is facing rape and other charges stemming from a May 26, encounter with an alleged 21-year-old victim.
Temple head coach Steve Addazio stated Tuesday that the 6 foot 1 linebacker has been suspended from the team pending the outcome of the charges.
Temple University has also suspended Martin-Oguike from the school for the time being.
Defense attorney James A. Funt said in a statement that his client “has been unjustly charged with a most heinous crime. He is a good young man from a good family who has never been in trouble before. He is a valued member of his church and community in New Jersey.”
The student told police that Martin-Oguike texted her several times after the alleged incident, apologizing but denying wrongdoing and asking: “Are you going to press charges?”
